After years of intense scientific work, INAEL Electrical systems, in cooperation with the University of Barcelona, the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, and the Spanish High Council for Scientific Research, has elucidated the mechanisms that lead to an increased stability of the ultra-reactive (001) facets of the anatase phase ot titania (TiO2) and has developed doping strategies compatible with large-scale industrial production of this nanostructured material. The material is applied as a photocatalyst, useful in sustainable environmental applications related with water decontamination and disinfection and air pollution abatement. The results have been just published in a high impact factor peer-reviewed scientific journal (http://pubs.rsc.org/en/content/articlelanding/2014/cp/c5cp03780h#!divAbstract). These results allow INAEL to continue leading the development and production of high-efficiency/low-cost nanostructured TiO2-based photocatalysts.
